An interview with Liz from Alpha Little Church

On Sunday at The Gathering, James interviewed Liz from Alpha Little Church. Our Alpha Little Church champion and host Alpha at B&A, sharing the good news with those that are exploring, or returning to faith. If you missed it here’s a little update of what God’s been doing through Alpha and how we can pray and join in this year…

How did you come to be a part of Alpha Little Church?

James asked me to help as a Zoom host, welcoming people in, when we first launched Alpha Online during the pandemic in 2020. The weird thing is a year before he left, Adam Smith suggested to me at work one day whilst making coffee that he thought I might be suited to running Alpha for B&A in the future and that I should consider it and pray about it.

What's one thing has God taught you in your time being part of Alpha Little Church?

That he always shows up during an Alpha course. That sometimes we learn what our calling is when we least expect it. And that everyone has questions about life.

Where have you seen God at work in the lives of the people you're serving?

I remember seeing one guest during the Holy Spirit sessions, who said at the beginning of the course that they felt they had no real relationship with Jesus, break down sobbing and then trying to make sense of what happened afterwards. I have also seen some quieter people really step into faith which resulted in Baptism which was amazing.

What's one thing you'd love to see God do in the next year?

It would be so nice to see the B&A family leaning in to Alpha. We would love people to feel called to serve with Alpha in some way, even if it was for a couple of sessions. There are so many ways to learn about what Alpha is like, you can come along with a friend to support them, bake cakes, stay for one or two sessions and prayer support is always essential and really helpful to us.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about Alpha?

That Alpha is not a Christian course for Christians. It is a place to ask questions for those who are already asking… the Alpha Little Church is something you can dip into alongside the amazing work you are already doing with your own Little Churches and this isn't about stealing people to join us but hoping to give everyone an inside view so that everyone is equipped with the right information to be able to invite friends, family and colleagues. We do not expect everyone to invite everyone they know all the time, but we hope to help people to tune into who it is that God is already at work in and how we can encourage them to try Alpha...

Our next Alpha course starts on March 17th. As a church family we’re committing to praying for Alpha over the next month and for our friends, family and colleagues who are ready to try Alpha.
