A Interview with Judith from the new Ukraine Hub team
On Sunday at Little into Big, James caught up with Judith who’s heading up our Ukraine Welcome Hub, welcoming Ukrainian refugees to Bristol and creating a safe space for them to build community. Here’s what she shared in case you missed it.
What are we planning to do with the Ukraine Welcome Hub?
We plan to provide a place, and times in the week where Ukrainian guests can meet, share food and start to rebuild community. So we will be cooking and hosting a meal once a week, and there will be another time in the week when people can drop in, chat, have tea and coffee – and cake of course – and also get help with some of the practicalities of settling into life in the UK. We also plan to provide food for people to prepare in their homes.
How can we get involved?
If you feel called to be a part of this, you can speak to me or another member of the team (Trudy and Alex Murray, or Megan Vowles) about how you can serve, and how much time you have to give. If you feel you want to commit more fully, then do speak to us about joining the team. There is much to be done. And of course please pray for the team, for our plans to come together and for the people travelling from Ukraine.
Why does this matter? Why did you cry during the meeting this morning?
Throughout the Bible we are told to care for and welcome the wandering stranger. James spoke of Isaiah 58 where God tells us to provide food for the hungry and provide shelter for the poor wanderer. And I thought of Matthew 25:35. So feeding the hungry and welcoming strangers is what I feel called to do at this time.
The B&A Welcome Hub starts this Thursday 28th April. Let’s be praying for Judith and the team and the guests.
